Jeannette Rincon committed her life to the United States Coast Guard at just 17 years old. She has since traveled the world and served our nation on a number of counterterrorism and short-term maritime response missions with Deployable Specialized Forces teams. From her local unit, Rincon leads an array of telecommunications efforts and oversees day-to-day operations of two communications units in Chesapeake and Alaska. Her attention to detail in uniform has fostered success in her volunteer efforts with the Coast Guard Alumni Association, Girls Scouts, annual Dance-A-Thon fundraisers at the Mambo Room and the Parent Teacher Association at her daughter’s elementary school.
How does your work with LDAC ensure positive leadership and diversity across military units?
LDAC is our Leadership and Diversity Advisory Council. The purpose is to create and maintain and positive work environment where everyone is encouraged to reach their full potential. We do this using many methods of education and assessments. The idea is that no matter the current status, there is always room to grow.
What is one thing your Girl Scout troop could teach the community about service?
The thought and consideration they put into their acts of services. They don’t just make a donation or pick up trash, they research and learn about the help that is needed, plan their help to best suit the need and educate others on what they did.
What do you enjoy most about volunteering at the Mambo Room?
The best part about volunteering there is the people; kindness is everywhere. Did I mention all the dancing I get to do?!
