With more than four decades of expertise in the furniture industry, Chesapeake’s Esprit Decor Home Furnishings has established itself as one of the region’s leading suppliers of high-quality goods. Its 40,000-square-foot facility boasts a tasteful showroom staged with the most sought-after furnishings for contemporary dining areas, modern living rooms, traditional bedroom spaces, outdoor entertaining and more. What truly sets Esprit Decor apart, however, is its unwavering commitment to sourcing and selling American-made products. By prioritizing American-made goods, Esprit Decor not only supports domestic manufacturing, but also ensures that customers receive exceptional quality, durability and style.

“We naturally gravitate towards the better product,” says Esprit Decor co-owner, Ricky Christian. “Concentrating on American-made goods not only provides our customers a greater variety of products, but it also allows us to build stronger relationships with our vendors. We’ve established connections with roughly 35 domestic manufacturers and utilize our increased control over ordering, manufacturing and delivery to boost customer satisfaction.”

Christian notes that customers are often surprised to discover that they can purchase high-quality, American-made pieces at the same-price as imported items. In many cases, the domestic options surpass the quality of their foreign counterparts, as do the products’ options for customization. Christian and his team recognize the importance of individuality in furniture and strive to provide customers with ample design options to help buyers communicate their personalities and stylistic preferences. “You have far greater options as far as fabrics and styles are concerned when purchasing furniture crafted in the United States,” says Christian. “Imported products, on the other hand, offer only a few color options, so in most cases, what you see is what you get. In our showroom, 80% of what you sit on was manufactured in the United States and nearly every upholstery option can be seen and felt at our store.”

Rowe, Lexington, Archbold and Vaughan-Bassett are just a few of the lauded American manufacturers whose products grace the Esprit Decor showroom. For those in search of domestic-made with local flair, Christian points customers toward the Bassett Furniture line. “A significant portion of Bassett’s production takes place here in Virginia and our neighboring state, North Carolina,” says Christian. “The manufacturer is a leader in upholstered and superior quality wood products. About 95% of what you sit on from Bassett is made in the U.S.”

BenchMade, Bassett’s wood and metal line, emphasizes sleek styles and sustainability. Several BenchMade products including end tables, coffee tables and consoles incorporate Appalachian oak and maple, as well as metals crafted locally in North Carolina mountains. Customers can research and finalize design options at Esprit Decor’s in-house Bassett Design Studio.

Offering top-of-the-line products and services isn’t Esprit Decor’s sole key to success. Christian credits his family and staff as the driving force behind Esprit Decor’s 41 years of business. Christian is joined at the helm by his sister, Beth, brother, Mark, and several third generation family members. The Christian clan is dedicated to carrying on the legacy of Esprit Decor’s founder and Christian’s late mother, Sally Christian. “We are furniture people. We pride ourselves in being very knowledgeable about the industry and look forward to serving every customer that walks through our doors,” says Christian.
