Hunt Club’s Flavor Pairs Craft Beer With Cuisine

On July 15 Hunt Club Farm in Virginia Beach hosted their second annual Flavor event, pairing craft beer with gourmet cuisine alongside live music, a silent auction, vendors and farmyard animals. The charitable event uniquely combined a hodgepodge of 44 catered dishes, including Tessa’s Creations and The Bee and The Biscuit (read more about them here), with 44 craft beers from 22 local and national craft breweries with proceeds benefiting Princess Anne Hunt Club Foundation funding scholarships for agricultural education programs.

Flavor brought out some of the best culinary finger foods representing the splendid tastes of Coastal Virginia. The event featured a range of suggested pairings and even some eccentric offbeat bites, from skewered fruits and cheeses to dainty desserts.

Some local flavors included Home Republic’s Juice Sea Fruit IPA with blue cheese rosemary cookies, Reaver Beach Brewing’s Under the Black Brownie Stout with bacon brownie brittle and Wasserhund Brewing Company’s German Shepheweizen with little dessert cream puffs.

The culinary map expanded with food fare and samplings from more Virginia breweries such as Wild Wolf, who put on tap their Hop Rocket IPL with a serving of goat and cream cheeseballs on pretzel sticks. Fair Winds Brewing's double IPA dubbed as Dank & Stormy put its hops together with a helping of honey and caramel drizzled popcorn. Ardent Craft Ales’, serving the German-style pilsner, Company Man, offered a refreshing and smooth pale combo with vegetarian pizza. Lickinghole Creek rounded things off with dessert, pouring their bold Chai Tea Black Bear Russian Imperial Stout over an offering of mini chocolate muffins.

Flying Dog Brewery and Evolution Craft Brewing both brought to the table the tastes of summer while paying tribute to the Chesapeake Bay. Serving brews that express Maryland’s never understated enthusiasm for Old Bay, Flying Dog Dear Rise Old Bay Summer Ale went with Old Bay shrimp and scallion salad, while Evolution Summer Session paired with corn on the cob—smothered in Old Bay.

Among the cuisine, vendors set up shop with Coastal Virginia-made items on display, such as Norfolk Growler Company and their handmade growlers, Virginia Bee Company’s honey-related products and Newsoms Peanut Shop, whose peanuts were also served with beer.

For an event pairing beer and food with a good cause, Flavor made for a captivating evening at Hunt Club Farm.
