Norfolk’s newest and most unique shopping experience, Selden Market, announces the arrival of dozens of new storefronts and pop-up shops for spring 2018. The rotating retail spaces vend handcrafted sweets, personalized gifts, state-inspired décor, apparel and other exclusive products designed by small, locally owned businesses.
The innovative shopping center opened six months ago in the historic Selden Arcade and is designed for both seasoned and up-and-coming entrepreneurs to develop their business models in a communal environment offering support and guidance. Selden Market is soon to welcome 11 new tenants and over 20 alternating pop-up booths.
Market tenants are well-established companies that assume the role as mentors for the emerging pop-up and incubator shops. While tenant storefronts typically remain in Selden Market for six months or more, the pop-up businesses rotate daily, weekly and monthly. These short-term trade spaces are also offered at reduced lease rates, providing smaller businesses a low-risk environment to advance their entrepreneurial skills and promote their one-of-a-kind products.
“The incubator program is a perfect environment to learn about what works best for your business,” says Market Director Careyann Weinberg. “We are excited to watch our initial tenant’s businesses grow and look forward to the continued transformation of Selden Market as we bring in new tenants.”
Among Selden’s newest tenants are Color Fleur, a modern, indoor garden boutique rooted in nature, art and interior design, and Surplus, a division of Chesapeake’s well-known Skate Supply. Color Fleur established itself as a smaller storefront in Selden Market six months ago when the market opened, but its rapid success has led to its promotion to tenant-status, also allowing the business to incorporate a new, in-store repotting station and other additional services. Surplus, however, is new to the market, but boasts 14 years as a successful skateboard apparel and accessories shop.
Selden Market releases a regular schedule featuring the names of current pop-ups, special events, classes, workshops and guest speakers. The market also continues to review applications for business prospects.
Selden Market is located at 208 E. Main St., Norfolk and is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday. For more information about the market’s newest, spring businesses or if you’re interested in applying for a promotion space, visit Selden Market’s official website.
