ODU's new S.B. Ballard Stadium

ODU football fans have been eagerly awaiting the rebuilding and expansion of S.B. Ballard Stadium. Named after alumnus Barry Kornblau, the stadium promises enhanced seating and modern amenities to make the overall experience more exciting and enjoyable. Construction began last summer and is scheduled to be completed by Aug. 31, just in time for the first home game against Norfolk State. Here are a few perks in which fans can look forward to. 

 

Seating

  • More than 21,000 seats
  • New mid-field chair-back seating complemented by bleacher seating with backs throughout the new stadium 
  • Legroom increased by at least 9 inches for every seat in the bowl
  • Seating 10 feet closer to the sidelines
  • Angled seating along the sidelines for better viewing of the game action

Langley Federal Credit Union Premium Sideline chair back Seating features more comfort over standard aluminum bleacher seats. Ticket packages include hospitality privileges to the Lexus Field Pass Terrace, an outdoor, covered space on the first level of the Atlantic Bay Football Complex that puts fans up close with the Monarchs as they enter the field.

29 Luxury Suites are located on the third and fourth level of the Atlantic Bay Football Complex. Patio, loft and standard styles available. Twelve suites boast outdoor balconies. Suites include tiered stadium seating for 12, upholstered furniture, HDTVs, food service area with upscale catering and personal service, parking passes and guest passes.

Priority Automotive Club, an exclusive and exciting new premium seating option for 2019, is located on the 50-yard line of the west side of the S.B. Ballard Stadium.

PNC Gridiron Club is located on the second floor of the Atlantic Bay Football Complex.

Standing Room Only Club Tickets provide access to the first and second floors of the Atlantic Bay Football Complex and Scholarship Lounge, both of which offer upscale concessions and full bar service. There will be no seat assignment with this ticket.

Improved Traffic Flow

  • Arched entrance gate at the "historic" Foreman Field entrance on the east side facing the existing Williamsburg Lawn, providing a location to honor Old Dominion legends
  • New west entry gate with a pre-game plaza centered below a new press box
  • Entrance dedicated to students, complete with concession space and special pre-game activities for students

 

Stadium Updates

  • New concessions: more than 45 food and merchandise points of sale 
  • More restrooms
  • Public mezzanine featuring social places for fans to mingle and access concession kiosks within direct view of the field
  • New press box facility containing state-of-the-art spaces for television, radio and print media and for visiting and home coaches
  • New stadium sound system complemented by new sports lighting, providing better quality game lighting for high-definition cameras and broadcasts
  • Access to live game and player stats, out-of-town scores and social media
  • 10mm spacing provides a high-resolution image for everyone in the stadium to see
  • New TowneBank Videoboard, a $2.5 million upgrade of state-of-the-art video replay board

 

The project will not use state funds or require an increase in student fees. It will be funded by athletic revenue, private funding and bond proceeds.
