Three Ways You Can Give Back This Summer

by | Jun 6, 2017

Summer in Coastal Virginia can mean vacationing, relaxing by the pool or at the beach and experiencing some well-deserved downtime from work and school. It can also be the perfect opportunity to get involved with the community and help those that are in need. Here are a few inspiring ways you can make the next few months a summer full of caring for one another:

The Little Red Mailbox in Sandbridge

Anyone can leave a note of hope for others at The Little Red Mailbox in Sandbridge, established by nonprofit Daniel’s Grace, which supports families stricken with cancer. The mailbox’s journal entries share messages and drawings that inspire and uplift each other.

Weekend Warrior Program at Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter

The Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter’s Weekend Warrior program lets volunteers foster pound pups for an overnight stay or an entire weekend. The program helps pets socialize and gain greater exposure to adopters when looking for a loving home.

Foodbank’s Summer Feeding Initiative

When school is out, kids that are in need don’t have access to programs that provide a nutritious breakfast and lunch. The Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore is fighting hunger for children facing food insecurity by providing meals to more than 900 children participating in programs and camps this summer.
