    In this workshop, you’ll create your own vermiculture – or worm – composting bin. These bins are low effort, produce no odor, and take up little space in your home or garage, but can have a big impact on your environmental efforts! Join us as we lead you through creating a vermiculture bin and give you tips for maintaining it before you head home. One registration includes all materials for one bin.

    Connecting people to nature through the use of our non-live collections items, called biofacts, helps create meaningful moments for everyone. Join us in this behind-the-scenes tour where we will explore our collections department, interact with education materials, and learn why having hands-on experiences are important to zoos and aquariums.
    Dates: Wednesdays at 2:00p.m. starting June 22.
    Duration of activity: 30 minutes with plenty of time to enjoy the rest of the Museum.

    A 5K running and walking event with 1 Mile Fun Run Walk and Pup Strut hosted at Billsburg Brewery.
    There will be NO early packet pickup. Packet Pickup will be race day starting at 7:00 AM at the starting line.
    BRING AN ITEM FOR THE RESCUE and receive (1) an additional door prize ticket. NEW ITEMS ONLY: dog/cat food (dry or wet), dog/cat treats, dog/cat toys, cat litter, puppy pee pads, gift cards (Petco, Care-A-Lot, Chewy, Amazon) for other needed pet supplies for rescued animals

    The 1 Mile Fun Run Walk and Pup Strut start at 8:00 am on Saturday, August 20, 2022. Same starting line as the 5K event. Dogs may accompany participants on the 1 Mile event as long as they are in a harness or collar and on a leash or suitable lead.
    The 5K starts at 8:30 AM on Saturday, August 20, 2022. Runners start and finish in the Billsburg Brewery picnic area and run USATF-certified course VA20012RT. This course follows the dirt path to a right on RT and then right on the service road running parallel to Jamestown Rd., then right onto Landfall, run to a turnaround, and back to the Brewery. NO DOGS will be permitted in the 5K events.
    All participants who register by August 12th are guaranteed to receive a race T-shirt and a finisher medal.

    All participants will receive a finisher medal, (1) Beer, and (1 slice) Pizza included in registration. Non-drinkers and underage participants will be able to receive a root beer or water.

    Parking is in the Jamestown Foundation Settlement parking lot.

James shares his knowledge of animal behavior, management, and care of the museum’s diverse population. Possible topics covered are venomous snakes, our alligator, Sarge, the bobcat, a deep sea isopod, jellyfish, lined seahorses, red wolves, the Chesapeake Bay Aquarium, and food preparation in the commissary, and more.

    Connecting people to nature through the use of our non-live collections items, called biofacts, helps create meaningful moments for everyone. Join us in this behind-the-scenes tour where we will explore our collections department, interact with education materials, and learn why having hands-on experiences are important to zoos and aquariums.
    Dates: Wednesdays at 2:00p.m. starting June 22.
    Duration of activity: 30 minutes with plenty of time to enjoy the rest of the Museum.
