CoVa Battle of the Burgers returned for its second year to crown Coastal Virginia’s best burger on the Southside and Peninsula with two separate events on Saturday, April 27 at the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach and Saturday, May 4 at Mill Point Park in Hampton. Local restaurants battled it out as they served slider-sized versions of burgers paired with Virginia craft beers and ciders.
Southside
Attendees and food judges voted for their favorite burger after sampling sliders from J&K Style Grill, Black Pelican, Bay Local, The Egg Bistro, Old Beach Tavern, Warriors Taphouse, Sweetwater Cuisine, Casby’s, 219 Bistro, The Landing, 1608 Crafthouse, Lager Heads, The Boardroom, Repeal Bourbon and Burgers, Blue Pete’s, Union Alehouse and Sage Kitchen Virginia Beach.
Guests voted for their favorite craft brewery or cidery after tasting beers and ciders, served in a commemorative souvenir glass, from Buskey Hard Cider, Ballast Point Brewing Company, Virginia Beer Company, Coelacanth Brewing Company, Hardywood Park Craft Brewery, Wasserhund Brewing Company, Deschutes Brewery, MoMac Brewing Company, Old Bust Head Brewing Company, Old Ox Brewery, Big Ugly Brewing, Suncrush Beer, Wild Wolf Brewing Company, Fair Winds Brewing Company and Sly Clyde Ciderworks.
Lager Heads’ The Southerner was named the Judges’ Choice for best burger.
Bay Local’s Fondue Burger was voted as the People’s Choice for best burger.
Suncrush Beer was voted as the People’s Choice for best brewery/cidery.
Judges Emily Arthur, on-air personality for US106.1 and Sports Radio 96.5FM; Devin, on-air personality for 94.9 The Point; Chef Chris Hill; and Blaine Stewart, anchor for WTKR News 3 and WGNT 27, picked Lager Heads’ The Southerner as the Judges’ Choice for best burger. Bay Local’s Fondue Burger was voted as the People’s Choice for best burger. Suncrush Beer was voted as the People’s Choice for best brewery/cidery.
Attendees also enjoyed live music from Anthony Rosano & The Conqueroos; fun games; a free one-year subscription to Coastal Virginia Magazine; and offerings from vendors, including Bath Fitter, Bay Dog Biscuits, Carder Realty Group, Coastal Landscapes, Dee’s Nuts, Epic Beard Photography, Heavenly Heat Salsa, Ideal Organizing Solutions, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Pella Windows & Doors, Pure Romance, The Salty Gypsea, Spoon Dessert Cafe and Topgolf.
