Norfolk’s popular Elizabeth River Trail, the 10.5 mile, mixed-use trail that winds through businesses, historic attractions and 28 neighborhoods, is about to glow up. The Elizabeth River Trail Foundation recently broke ground on its on its newest amenity, The Glowline, at Jeff Robertson Park.

This first-of-its-kind on the East Coast, The Glowline is an 800-foot luminous path embedded with light-sensitive aggregate stones that will absorb UV/UB sunlight during the day and glow an intense green during the night. The path will wrap the northwest playing fields in Jeff Robertson Park with the design pattern of a fiddlehead fern.

With the Weyanoke Bird and Wildlife Sanctuary on one end and the gateway to the railyard on the other, The Glowline pattern will mirror the greenery of the bird sanctuary creating a unique sense of place. As of press time, the project was slated to be completed in early fall of 2022.
