Sink your teeth into the ham town Food & History Walking Tour featuring samples with a side of history
This past fall, Smithfield & Isle of Wight Tourism introduced a new Food & History Walking Tour that just might be tastier than a ham biscuit like Grandma used to make. Discover the culinary delights of Downtown Smithfield as you spend the afternoon strolling and savoring samples of pork, seafood, dessert and more while uncovering the fascinating history of the pork and peanut industries that put Smithfield on the map.
Whether it’s first-time visiting Smithfield (in which case, you have been missing out on some serious small-town charm) or you’re a regular, this is a chance to experience Smithfield in an entirely unique way.
You’ll learn from a knowledgeable (and fun) local guide, enjoy views of the Pagan River and Victorian houses as you stroll Church Street, get a look inside some historic locations and peek into their captivating pasts, sample a variety of cuisines, and hear from the talented creators behind the dishes you’re tasting.
Tours start at Smithfield Station Restaurant, last 2 to 3 hours and are offered most first and third Fridays of the month at 2 p.m. The cost is $75 per person and that covers the tours as well as your food and drink samples at six stops including Smithfield Station, Wharf Hill Brewing Co., The Fiddlin Pig, Smithfield Inn, Chili Hill Food & Farm, Taste of Smithfield, Smithfield Gourmet Bakery and Smithfield Ice Cream Parlor.
