A True Vacation for Their Guests
Hannah-Grace and Troy Folmer wanted their wedding to be a balance of grandness and intimacy. The answer: The Historic Cavalier Hotel and Beach Club in Virginia Beach. They loved the combination of old-world design and simplicity. “It felt like the type of place where nothing would fall through the gaps,” said Hannah-Grace.
The pair met during graduate school orientation at Ohio University in Athens County, Ohio. The pair clicked. Hannah-Grace grew up in Chesapeake and Troy grew up in Fresno, California. They knew they wanted their wedding to feel like a true vacation for their guests. And…it was.

A Beach Engagement
Troy went above-and-beyond for the couple’s engagement. He surprised Hannah-Grace at Sandbridge Beach, where she and her best friend used to daydream about their futures. Troy had lanterns, he had roses—and he had a ring that he drove more than 17 hours to retrieve at the last minute. (There was a mistake in the ring setting; the Ohio-based jewelers fixed it just in time.) Troy waited on Sandbridge Beach for Hannah-Grace to show for more than an hour, in the cold, to pull off his surprise. “It was all worth it,” said Troy. “It was a very nostalgic place for her.”
The Prrrfect Beach Cocktails
Hannah-Grace and Troy added a special touch to their big day, too. They made sure their reception, in the Crystal Ballroom at The Historic Cavalier Hotel and Beach Club, featured cocktails inspired by their beloved four cats. “Each of the guests got to try the Mango, the Zooey, or the Dean. It was really cute,” said Hannah-Grace.
Before their wedding day, Hannah-Grace and Troy called a “cat cocktail meeting” to brainstorm drink ideas, which were based on each cat’s personality.
Wedding Wishes
Hannah-Grace and Troy said it was meaningful to celebrate with friends and family. What’s more, Hannah-Grace’s childhood pastor, from The Bridge Christian Fellowship–Chesapeake, officiated their ceremony. To the couple, this was meaningful as well. “Having my past, present, future in front of me at the exact same time,” added Hannah-Grace. “That meant so much to me.”
The Honeymoon
For their honeymoon, Hannah-Grace and Troy went to the Jade Mountain Resort in St. Lucia. The pair enjoyed the five-star resort’s luxury and open-air concept rooms—which overlook the Caribbean Sea and The Pitons. “It was epic!” said Troy.
