Get Lost VB brings island flavors and a unique treat to the Oceanfront
As the weather across Coastal Virginia heats up, a new business at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront is offering a lightly sweet and delicious way to cool things down, Aloha style.
Stephanie and Todd Askins, owners of Get Lost VB, fell head over flip-flops for a tasty treat they enjoyed while on their honeymoon in Hawaii and decided to share the love back home in VB.
Opened in late 2023, Get Lost specializes in Hawaiian-inspired shave ice—that’s “shave” not “shaved,” for the record, y’all—a unique dessert with a scoop of ice cream on the bottom and an impossibly fluffy mound of ice that closely resembles soft snow (and is reminiscent of the popular Japanese treat kakigōri) on top.
Unlike your average snow cone, which has crunchier, larger pieces of ice that cause liquid toppings to sink to the bottom of the bowl, shave ice’s fine texture allows flavors and toppings to soak in and permeate the ice for a cool, flavorful experience from the first spoonful to the last. Once you’ve selected an ice cream flavor and have that snowy ice on top, things can get crazy creative from there.
“We’re talking hand crafted seasonal flavors,” as Get Lost notes on their social media pages. “We’re talking a scoop of yummy ice cream in the middle of that sweet snow. We’re talking fresh fruit and creamy toppings. We’re talking vegan and dairy free options.”
Choose one of Get Lost’s selected pairings like the Aloha Breeze with coconut, mango and passionfruit syrup over vanilla ice cream. Or build your own. Pick two flavors from a long list that includes blueberry lavender, strawberry, pineapple, cotton candy, pink lemonade, mocha and coffee. Top it with a “sno cap” (condensed milk), whipped cream, toasted coconut and more.
True to its island origins, Get Lost has a groovy, beachy, laid-back vibe with a tranquil turquoise color scheme, tropical plants and a logo featuring a skeleton Hula gal. Enjoy your made-to-order shave ice inside or on their outdoor picnic tables.
“To say we are excited is an understatement,” says Stephanie of the anticipation of their first full-fledge summer tourist season. “We are making sure we are running as efficiently as possible to be able to serve large numbers of people while not losing focus on the quality of our product. Top notch customer service and serving the best product possible are our main focuses.”
If you can’t make it to the Oceanfront location, be on the lookout for the Get Lost VB truck, which also rolled out recently and will be making appearances around VB and possibly elsewhere in the region.
“We are so pumped to be able to bring our Hawaiian inspired shave ice to more people with our truck,” Stephanie says, “and to have everyone be able to experience a taste of Aloha!”
