Helping Clients Build Their Empire

Prodigy Realty Broker/Owner Karen Tyler, best known as “Tyler,” is not your typical real estate agent. Instead of expensive outfits and pristinely polished nails, she is ready to roll up her sleeves and utilize her construction know-how to closely examine homes and properties with the client’s best interest as the priority. Her enthusiasm for construction work makes it no surprise that she has been significantly involved with revamping the office building she bought in 2019 for her company, Prodigy Realty, handling many of the renovation projects herself.
Tyler’s dynamic, hands-on nature is a strong reflection of how she conducts business. Her journey into the real estate world started in the property sector and quickly branched into many different areas. She wasn’t deterred from obtaining her real estate license in 2008, around the time when the market was crashing, and she went on to sell 54 houses the following year. Tyler’s love for the real estate business was instantaneous, and in the beginning of her career she was so excited she “wanted to make everybody a real estate agent because it is so cool,” she jokes. (Tyler’s passion for her career path has influenced her daughter, who started her own brokerage a couple of years ago.) In all seriousness, Tyler admits that real estate probably saved her life, providing her a positive focus as she has grown an unexpected career from the ground up, learning so much along the way. Through this journey she found a true calling and has carved out a name for both herself and her business in Coastal Virginia.
Earlier challenges and difficult life lessons laid a solid foundation for Tyler’s future business success. Even so, despite her strong work ethic and unwavering resilience, early on in her career Tyler quickly realized she could not do it all on her own and emphasizes the importance of her supportive team at Prodigy Realty, including Joy Frazier, an anchor of the company’s operations for the past 14 years.

When working with Prodigy Realty, clients can rest assured that there’s a collaborative team of experts committed to answering the call, literally. Tyler and her team ensure that they are available to answer a client’s phone call or return a call promptly. In addition, Prodigy Realty takes contracts very seriously, both in terms of content and honoring them. Much more than a mere transaction of buying a house or a piece of property, Tyler views her team’s mission as helping clients build their empires so that they are investors for the long term.
“I like the fact that our team is so well-rounded and can answer any question regarding land, investing, new construction, Airbnbs, property management, and commercial real estate for first time or fifth time home buyers,” she says.
Personally, Tyler enjoys spending time with clients and learning what they are truly wanting. At the core, she just wants people to be happy. Her connection to the local community reaches far and wide, from mentoring rising real estate professionals to supporting various organizations dear to her such as the Navy Special Operations Foundation.
Filled with gratitude for how far she and her business have come, Tyler is dedicated to uplifting others as a way of reciprocating the help and support others have graciously gifted her. “Real estate is exciting and rewarding,” Tyler says. “Even if something is upside down now, it can turn. You just need to know the right agent.”
