It was an epic day of craft burgers and beer at Coastal Virginia Magazine’s CoVa Battle of the Burgers, held at the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach on June 11. Approximately 1,600 guests enjoyed picture-perfect weather and live entertainment by Buckshot while sampling delicious gourmet burgers from 16 participating local restaurants plus the Culinary Institute of Virginia.
The competition was heated! But our big winner for both the People’s Choice and VIP Judges’ Choice Awards for best burger was Bar-Q in Norfolk and Hardywood Park Craft Brewery took home the prize for best brewery.

The Bar-Q “PB&J Burger”
Hold on to you charcoal briquets, because your childhood lunch box was never as cool as the winner of Coastal Virginia Magazine’s 2022 Battle of the Burgers competition. Bar-Q restaurant in Norfolk’s Ocean View (located inside Bold Mariner Brewing) won both the People’s Choice and Judges’ Choice prizes with their creative and delicious PB&J Burger. Smoked beef brisket, pepper jack cheese, peanut butter, hot pepper jelly, pickled jalapeños and French-fried onions on a toasted brioche bun. Congratulations, Bar-Q!
