A Little Something Sweet

wedding desserts

Whether you’re “cutting the cake” or “cutting out” the cake, dessert bars satisfy everyone’s sugar craving

While classic and contemporary twists on cake are still the sweet standard for weddings, many couples have opted for dessert or candy bars for the vive la variété factor. Because, what is better than one dessert? Many different miniature desserts, of course. A few tips:

Think Bite Size
What makes this fun is that you can try one, two, three or maybe all of them and still have room for more.

Mix and Match
Consider varying the desserts and their presentation in color, height, texture, ingredients and flavors.

Choose Chocolate
No dessert bar, or life, is complete without chocolate. Be it mini cakes, bars, brownie bites, it’s all good.

Don’t Forget Fruit
Thinkbars with fresh fruity flavors like lemon, mango or peach or elegant fruit-topped bites like a mini Pavlovas.

Get Nostalgic
Tiny elevated version of things everybody loved as a kid, like s’mores or rice crispy treats, are always a hit.

These desserts may be served instead of or in addition to a traditional cake. Either way, no one should complain. Any of your favorite local caterers like Mermaid Catering, Chef by Design or TASTE can certainly whip up a divine dessert bar resplendent with tiny parfaits, cheesecakes, chocolate mousse, tiramisu and beyond.

Ditto for the many fabulous bakeries in our region including our Coastal Virginia Weddings Best Of winners for 2024, featured in this issue: Incredible Edibles Bakery, Sugar Plum Bakery, Scratch Bakery, Twisted Sisters Cupcakes, Kadi Bakes, Hummingbird Dessert Boutique and Sinful Treats.

Whatever you choose, make it delicious, fun and easy to eat and it’s sure to be the second most popular bar at your wedding.
