Toes in the sand. Love in your hearts. Planning a beach wedding is a dream come true for many couples. The oceanside setting provides a naturally stunning backdrop, but hosting a wedding on the beach comes with its own unique set of challenges. Here are a few do’s and don’ts to ensure your day is as smooth as the tides.

Do

Choose the Right Time
Opt for a time when the beach is less crowded, such as early morning or late afternoon. Also consider the tides!

Check Local Regulations
Obtain any necessary permits and learn about restrictions, like noise ordinances or limitations on decorations.

Plan for the Weather
Provide shade for guests, especially in summer, and, as with any outdoor wedding, have a backup plan in case of rain.

Think About Parking
Beach accesses can be coveted spaces with parking at a premium. Consider organizing a carpool system or shuttle service.

Dress for the Beach
Well, sort of. Think lightweight fabrics, and consider going barefoot or wearing sandals or flats, at least
until you leave the beach.

Mind The Décor
Keep decorations simple and wind-resistant, such as anchored floral arrangements and arches and beach-worthy seating.

Make Sounds Decisions
Rent a microphone or portable speaker to ensure the waves and ocean breezes don’t drown out your wedding vows.

Don’t

Ignore Guest List Size
Beaches can be expansive, but overcrowding can disrupt the vibe of your event. Permit requirements may also vary by size.

Forget Accessibility
Make sure your setup accommodates elderly guests, wheelchairs or anyone who might struggle with walking on sand.

Overdo Decorations
Avoid non-biodegradable items or anything that could fly away or be left behind, causing harm to
marine life or beachgoers.

Stress Over Passersby
Getting married on a public beach is, well, public. So be prepared for the unexpected. Thankfully, most onlookers are respectful.

Skip Cleanup Plans
Arrange for a cleanup crew to leave the beach in as pristine a state afterward as when you arrived—or maybe even better.

Forget Timing for Photos
Golden hour offers the best lighting for breathtaking pictures, and the beach is one of the most
gorgeous settings for this.

By taking a few practicalities into consideration along with romance and a shared love of salt air,
your beach wedding can be a truly unforgettable celebration.
