Local Love: Magic in the Air

Megan and Luis wanted their wedding to be like them— “a little nerdy, a little silly and a lot of fun”—and, with a little help from Harry Potter, that’s what they got.

Like so many pandemic postponements, COVID couldn’t stop Megan Pennington-Boggio and Luis Cardona from making it official and marking the day with love from friends, family and a touch Harry Potter magic. When COVID prevented the bride’s niece and nephew from attending as flower girl and ring bearer at the last minute, the bride’s brother stepped up to fill in, complete with a wizard’s robe and flower wand. “We even managed to scrounge up a fanny pack full of mini bottles for him to distribute,” says Megan, “which ended up being one of the wedding highlights!”

The Couple: Megan Pennington-Boggio and Luis Cardona
The Date: September 5, 2021
The Location: Historic Martin Mansion (Norfolk Women’s Club)

Guest List: Joining Megan and Luis on their big day were 50 close family and friends.

How They Met: On the dating app OKCupid

The Engagement: Luis planned a picnic in the Enchanted Forest at the Norfolk Botanical Gardens to pop the question.

Wedding Wishes: The couple wanted their wedding to be a representation of them: “a little nerdy, a little silly and a lot of fun.” They chose the Martin Mansion because it was beautiful, affordable and a non-profit that gives back to the local community. The venue also lent itself perfectly to their loosely Harry Potter themed wedding.

What’s Next: Following their wedding Megan and Luis spent nine days exploring Puerto Rico. In the coming year, they hope to buy a house and start a family.
