Honoring Community-minded Companies in the Region In Partnership with VOLUNTEER Hampton Roads
Since 2023, Coastal Virginia Magazineand CoVaBIZ have partnered withVOLUNTEER Hampton RoadsforThe Civic 50 Hampton Roads business recognition program. The Civic 50 is a national initiative established by Points of Light and honoring community-minded companies as determined by an annual survey administered by True Impact. This program is one of a select few regional Civic 50 initiatives in the U.S.
The Civic 50 Hampton Roads 2025 selected businesses are listed here and featured in the December/January 2026 issue of CoVaBIZ Magazine.
Among the Civic 50 Businesses, three were selected as sector leaders for small, medium and large size businesses. Those businesses are also recognized here.

The TowneBank Foundation provides charitable grants and donations to more than 200 non-profit organizations. The TowneBank Foundation has two premier annual events: The Fall Extravaganza and the Annual Charity Golf Tournament. Since its inception in 2004, The Fall Extravaganza has raised nearly $6 million

Virginia Wesleyan University (VWU) is a private liberal arts institution committed to offering a broad, accessible education in the arts, sciences, business, health, public service, and more.
VWU inspires students to build meaningful lives through engagement in our region and the world. The Wesleyan Engaged program collaborates with service partners like Norfolk Botanical Garden, Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce, Special Olympics, and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation to foster impactful student engagement activities and support faculty-led service learning courses.
VWU is committed to affordability. It has kept tuition frozen for six consecutive years, offers renewable merit scholarships, and supports extensive Work and Learn programs that allow students to learn on the job and earn money toward tuition at the same time.

Small Sector Leader
VIA is an award-winning, Norfolk-based multi-disciplinary architecture and design firm focused on fostering collaboration between clients and community. The firm is guided by three core principles: a future-focused outlook, client-centric design, and community-driven initiatives. Their mission is to “inspire, design, and elevate” the daily lives of their clients and the communities in which they work.
