If you thought you knew pizza, think again. A wave of new restaurants in the area is here to shake up your slice game. These aren’t your average pizzerias; they’re inventive concepts that pair pizza with unexpected companions, turning your ho-hum “let’s just order a pizza” night into a unique dining experience.

Leading the way is Bird Girl Bottle Shop (birdgirlbottleshop.com) in Hilton Village, a cozy gem that’s part craft beer destination and part “wild pizza” parlor. Think rare bottles of beer, cider and mead sold alongside pies with surprising ingredient combinations and crusts that are perfectly crispy and chewy. The “Sharpie Tattoo,” for instance, features garlic olive oil, aged cheddar, mozz, brown sugar bacon, runny egg, maple syrup and cracked pepper. Swoon! New pizzas are turned out every week, and guests can even submit ideas for “Trial and Error” night. Set inside a charming historic cottage, Bird Girl also boasts a festive fenced-in backyard where guests can hang out with a draft pint and a pie, play corn hole, and soak up the slow neighborhood vibes.

Along with Bird Girl in the “pizza with benefits” category is Victoria’s Pizza (victoriaspizzeriavb.com), located next door to sister business Yianni’s Wine Shop. Known for its elevated take on Italian and Greek classics, Victoria’s serves up wood-fired pies with a dash of sophistication. Sour Street Pizza (sourstreetpizza.com), a local food truck darling, is leveling up with a new brick-and-mortar location in Ocean View.

Over in the ViBe District, Aslin Beer features an overachieving combination of taproom, beer garden, coffeeshop, ice cream station, and IZZI Kitchen (aslinbeer.com/izzi), which turns out pizzas as well as BBQ, breakfast and dinner. And don’t sleep on Lo Mo Pizzeria (lomopizzeria.com), where you can snag a beautiful bottle of natural, organic wine with an inventive and craveable pie—and catch vibes as fresh as their toppings.

These new spots prove that pizza doesn’t have to fly solo. Whether you’re sipping craft brews or perusing great wines, one thing is clear: pizza is the life of the party, and it’s never been more fun.
