Dr. Jayme Alencar de Oliveira Filho, started his own family dentistry practice in 2017 because he thought the world of dentistry was losing touch with patients. “I was tired of corporate dentistry treating people like a number,” says Dr. Alencar. “They’re just getting people in and out, trying to make a profit and meet their numbers. I wanted to bring back the feeling of friendship and family back to dentistry.”
Located on Greenbrier Parkway in Chesapeake, Alencar Family Dentistry caters to people of all ages. When Dr. Alencar talks about family dentistry, he’s not only talking about working with every member of your family. He wants his patients to feel like a part of his own extended family in the workplace.
“Relationships are important, especially in this time and age when there is so much division and nonsense going on in the world,” emphasizes Dr. Alencar. “Dentistry is not a one-way street. It has to be a two-way street. If the patient is not engaged in the treatment plan and what you are trying to provide for them, it doesn’t work. I want my patients to feel like they are becoming part of something more than just a dental office. We are their healthcare provider, but we also want to be part of their life, too. We do care about our patients.”
One element of that philosophy is understanding that times are tough and paying for services can sometimes be a problem when money is tight. Alencar Family Dentistry offers several ways to help patients get the care they need, when they need it. They offer CareCredit, internal payment plans, discount plans, and more. “Money should not be an impediment to service,” says Dr. Alencar. “We try to figure out a way that can work for both parties. Again, it’s all about relationships.”
In 2020, Dr. Alencar combined his message of family and community when he created the Alencar Family Foundation to create a more organized way to increase their philanthropic endeavors. Dr. Alencar believes that if you are blessed as a family, you should spread that blessing to others. “As I said previously, it’s a two-way street—not just in dentistry, but for life in general. When we first moved here, the community opened their arms to us. So, we try to give back in return.”
Alencar Family Dentistry is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. They are closed on Saturday and Sunday. Their office is located at711 Greenbrier Parkway, Suite 101 in Chesapeake.
