Indoor Rock Climbing Comes to Norfolk

Norfolk’s booming Williamston-Woodland Historic District will soon be home to yet another groundbreaking enterprise that is sure to take the city to new heights. Latitude Climbing + Fitness, Norfolk's new world class climbing, fitness and yoga facility, is set to open this summer.

Launched by Jason McKenzie and Matthew and Marisa Beck, the state-of-the-art rock climbing center is designed to create a community of climbers in a city far from Virginia’s mountainous regions. The 15,000-square-foot warehouse will feature five distinct rock climbing walls manufactured by Vertical Solutions, a training area, fitness center and yoga studio.

The routes of each terrain will change periodically to both challenge climbers and showcase the complexity of the walls’ architecture. Adjacent to the climbing space will also be a separate fitness center equipped with a military-style Monkey Rig 2.0 and several cardio machines including ellipticals, Concept 2 erg rowing machines and Assault Air Runners. Climbers can improve their strength and flexibility even further in Latitude’s glass yoga studio.

Other onsite amenities include WiFi, complimentary lockers outfitted with integrated technology locks, private showers and dressing rooms, a refreshment bar serving cold pressed juices and Three Ships Coffee and a retail shop vending the latest in climbing gear. Latitude will carry apparel and accessories from La Sportiva, Evolv, Born Primitive, Chalk Cartel and more.

The climbing facility is also negotiating with local food trucks to host select vendors outside the studio as a convenient dinner option for evening climbers.

Latitude Climbing + Fitness is located at 1830 Lindsay Ave., Norfolk. Memberships include full access to the fitness center and yoga classes as well as one monthly guest pass. Visit Latitude’s Membership page for more information.
