SkyStar Wheel to Make Grand Debut at Waterside District

The much-anticipated, 137-foot SkyStar Wheel will make its grand debut at Norfolk’s Waterside District on Saturday, May 19. The $7 million Ferris wheel underwent construction in the Netherlands and arrived to the port city earlier this month.

SkyStar is equipped with 36 climate-controlled gondolas that offer sweeping views of the Elizabeth River and Norfolk’s bustling downtown. For just $14, Waterside patrons can experience four rotations on the 12-story SkyStar while enjoying cocktails and fare from district vendors.

Each gondola is designed to carry six passengers and is wheelchair accessible. SkyStar also offers a portfolio of party packages including a date night package featuring chocolate strawberries and champagne, corporate packages and exclusive holiday packages for Harborfest and Fourth of July VIP fireworks sessions.

“Waterside District continues to transform Norfolk’s skyline and we are excited they are bringing SkyStar to our city,” says Mayor Kenneth Cooper Alexander. “This attraction is the perfect complement to Harbor Park, Town Point Park, Nauticus and the Battleship Wisconsin. The excitement is building for what will be a memorable summer experience.”

Following the unveiling on May 19, a weeklong SkyStar celebration will ensue featuring a host of community events and activities along the river.

SkyStar will operate seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Rides begin at $12 for children and $14 for adults. Exclusive discounts for military, students and seniors are also in the works.

SkyStar is situated adjacent to Waterside District located at 333 Waterside Dr., Norfolk.
