York County Principal Skydives for Cancer Research Fundraiser

by | Apr 17, 2018

On April 14, Yorktown’s Dr. Shannon Butler completed her much-anticipated skydiving stunt after promising her students she’d endure the daredevil experience if they raised $15,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The students at York High School not only met the fundraising goal by the March 24 deadline, but exceeded it and raised a total of $20,284.

Leading the principal’s skydive at Skydive Suffolk were two York High School seniors, Nicholas Searcy and Nichole Springhorn. The two arranged a seven week campaign that pitted teams of students against one another to raise the most money in the fight against blood cancer.

Dr. Butler’s Saturday morning skydive was witnessed by a sea of supporters including students, parents, teachers, York County leaders, York County school officials and staff form the Hampton Roads chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
